When she’s not reading spice or lint-rolling cat hair off her yoga pants, she’s writing to her little black heart’s content while daydreaming about said cinnamon roll book boyfriends.

Why I write:

I fell in love with the art of storytelling even before I knew how to sing the ABCs. All my life, I’ve kept stacks of old notebooks piled up with daydreams and stories that little Morgan wrote as she tried to make sense of the world around her. Eventually, I fell even more in love with the romance genre and all of its fantastical, gorgeous, and sometimes heartbreakingly beautiful elements. While the romantasy genre is a wonderful escape from reality, I also think reading any genre helps us understand and navigate the world around us with more empathy, love, and wonder.

"This book is definitely an amazing series starter."

Five times over this is a reread series.
From the start the FMC, Maven, draws you in with her snark, her love of the macabre and her intelligence. The author did an amazing job introducing her character in the first chapter and seamlessly intertwining it with world building and plot introduction. From her few interactions in one chapter you gain an understanding of the FMC's character, her purpose, and her heart.

I could not put it down and I did not want it to end. Luckily book 2 is out so I can keep going.
The MMCs were perfect, they have a great dynamic together because they hate each other, but also respect one another. They are obsessed with Maven, they can’t figure her out and it just makes them more obsessed. They all have very different personalities and backgrounds and it makes it so they are all your favorite for different reasons.
Maven was amazing. I love a strong FMC and her secrets were driving me crazy. I wanted to know about her past as much as her quintet. I wanted to know everything about her just like her quintet.

The plot of the story was so well thought out. I didn’t even realize who the bad guys were the whole story and I didn’t understand Maven’s mission either, but I loved how we kept up the overall plot, but was focused on the quintet and them trying to win Mavin over and protect her without also knowing she is so powerful.
I can’t wait to see what the gods have in store for our quintet!

I swear I finished the last page and immediately stared into space like... excuse me?

This first book doesn’t give you answers. It sets the world, it plants the seeds, and it plays with your emotions. It’s clearly the calm before the chaos. It gave me theories, questions, a million what-ifs, and somehow also gave me heartache and obsession.

Maven, our FMC, is something fierce. She’s strong, brutal, and carrying the kind of mental scars that make her flinch from touch. She’s not just emotionally guarded, she’s on a mission. She’s not here for romance, she’s here for vengeance, and I love that she’s the one rejecting the bonds instead of the other way around. We don't see that very often in the RH world!

And the boys? Whew. Some of them I love. Some of them I want to shake by the shoulders. Crypt and Silas have my heart(of course they do, they are on the psycho side and we know i love that). Everett better grovel hard. Baelfire is a golden retriever with a huge ego. They’re obsessed with her already and I’m here for it.
Bottom line, this is a phenomenal setup. The world, the mystery, the tension, the emotions. If book one cracked the door open, book two is about to kick it off the hinges. Let’s go.
